Hello, I`m searching for anyone from Houston, Texas that are looking to breed their female Pekingese. My boyfriend has one that is about 11 years old, and doesn`t have much time left, and I want him to have a girlfriend or mate so the female could have puppies and keep the legacy going! And of course we want one of the male puppies! =)

Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea to breed any dog that age, and especially if it's pet quality (not proven in the ring) and hasn't been tested for health and genetic problems (hips, eyes, etc). There are enough homeless dogs right now (including pekes and peke pups).

This is only a fraction of what I found... looks like there are hundreds on petfinder alone.

I have to agree with Cheetah on this one - I personally do not think it's fair to expect a dog of 11 years to have pups. That would be like having a pregnant Granny - wrong!!

I', afraid I too have to agree with Cheeta. Your boyfriends dogis an old man and it would not be fair to use him as a stud dog at this great age sorry if you are disappointed by not carrying on his line, but as Cheetah says there are enough unwanted puppies around including Pekes. If I were you I would take Cheetah's advice.

OMG ................ i cant believe what i've just read. Why not buy another pup when the time comes. At that age with that breed one has to ask why???. would you want to use him at stud, the poor thing. You obviously havent looked into herediitary faults!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I didn`t really want negative replies. And I`m sorry about those homeless dogs. I`d save all of them if I had the power to, and trust me, I`ve saved many. I know that`s not enough. But I thought it`d be nice to keep the family going. And someone was thinking that this dog is a female...he`s actually male...they don`t get pregnant. But I guess...I know if I can`t breed him, than of course I`m going to have to go out and do the next best thing and find another dog that looks like the dog now...

I am sorry for the negative responses, but the people here feel very strongly about the issue of BYB (backyard breeders) Breeding isnt for money or just to get a puppy from your dog. What about all the other pups in the litter, do you have homes lined up for them? Has your dog been hip tested? eye tested? And whether it is male or female, I believe 11 years old is too old to be breeding. A responsible breeder wouldnt agree to use a stud that hasnt been tested or is too old. And what we want to promote here is responsible breeding. I hope you stick around and read up, and I am sure you will come to understand the reasoning behind this.

Also it wouldnt be guaranteed you would get a pup that looks exactly like the dog you have now. I suggest either finding someone who is a responsible breeder to get another peke or check your shelters or peke breed rescues if you want another peke.

Welcome to the forum! And I hope you stick around! You will learn a lot!

I actually do understand what these people are talking about. And if I decided to breed him, I would find great homes for those dogs. But see, I ask him (the boyfriend) if we could breed his dog because he was too old, and doesn`t do much. And he said yes. I was a little skeptical about that. And believe I do not want to do anything to cause more problems for his dog, their dogs or any other dogs out there. Believe me! I love dogs more than anything! So I guess I`m going to have to find him a puppy to raise again!

I think that is a great idea to find a puppy elsewhere! Good luck in your puppy search!!

Im in Texas too! The top though, but my bf has lots of family in the Houston area!

You won't regret it! Rescuing dogs is so rewarding, and they'll never forget you for it. >^_^< I know Eevee didn't.

(That is, if you are going to rescue)

Either that or you can go on the Pekingese Club or America website and they list good breeders. Show breeders always have pet quality pups in their litters. >^_^<

I`ve saved dogs hundreds of time...I know the feeling...trust me. The dog in my avatar is a saved puppy. Her mother abandoned her! I saved her life, and I love her VERY much! And our dogs look kinda alike.

That's sweet. >^_^< Mine was just dumped at the pound... but I'm glad they dumped her, because I wouldn't have met the best dog I've ever had. *Warm fuzzy moment*

Anyway, if you get a peke pup, you must post pictures. >^_~<

Im sorry if this sounds rude but i believe this entire post is just moraly wrong and im taking it very personal.
I know no harm was ment by the comments here but we at DF.org are more then just "these people", we've become friends, another family and great educators(to one another :))
Us people dont just feel strongly about these subjects, it's just the "right thing to do" and we see that, we only say these things in hopes to make others see it too.
And to the original post, i believe it is utterly wrong and inhumane to make a dog that is 11 years old mate with a female because "some person" wants a darned puppy that looks like him.
I'd be a liar if i didnt say puppies arent cute and all, but whats the difference then getting a pup from a rep. breeder and getting one from your dog? you still have to feed it, take it out to potty, house train, crate train(if you wanted too), play with it etc.
the only REAL difference is...a breeder does all the required tests and certifications that make them reputable and responsible.
i hope you change your mind, i really do. I didnt mean for this to sound wrong or rude, but it's how i saw it and i felt the need to express it.
