I have some sad news, I was watching CNN and there was coverage of an animal shelter fire in Jacksonville, FL. I tried to find a link to post here, but was unable. Maybe one of you will know more and be able to fill us in.
From the piece, I understood that the fire started in the laundry room. Apparently all but 2 dogs survived, but the cats were not as fortunate. The entire building was destroyed. I will try to post more info if I find it. Please keep these animals and the people who saved them in your thoughts.

That is really sad. :(
A fire is one of my worst nightmares. I dread ever coming home to see my house or barn in flames. I KNOW I would go in and try to save my pets in the house and horses in the barn.

I have the same worries. I trained my dogs a "fire drill" but still- someone needs to be home to let them out. ..

Well this is not a happy post, but here is a news story on it:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A fire gutted the local Humane Society headquarters, killing dozens of animals including nearly all of the cats in the building, authorities said.

wow that is absolutely horrible im wondering why i didnt hear about this as its not that far from me, a 3 hour drive at most, that is such horrible news. i feel horrible for all those animals that lost their lives and for the people who fought to save them in the first place only to loose them like this, this truely is a tragedy. this is why i have a doggy door, so if we are not home and something did happen my dogs have a way out into the yard
(our home is very old and has many electrical problems which is why we are trying really hard to get a new home) but i could not live with myseelf if my home didnt have a way for the dogs, or ourselves to get out in case of something like that.we already practice fire drills with my kids just in case and they are only 2 and 4.

I guess I am surprised that there weren't more of the sprinkler-type fire alarms. With all of those animals locked in cages, I suppose it is fortunate any of them made it out.

My Heart Goes Out. I Live In Cincinnati Area And I Have An Even Sadder Story, Though, Sad To Say. I Heard On The News That A Huge Dog Fighting Ring Was Raided. The Good News Is, The Stopped It, For Time Being, The Bad News Is, The People Behind It Were Racking In $100.00 A Ticket And The Fights Were Full. The Worse News Is, They Are Only Keeping The Dogs Alive Long Enough To Be Used As Evidence And Then They Will Be Destroyed Because The Aspca Said That Even Though Some Were Friendly, They Could Not Be Rehabilitated. I Tried To Reach The "dog Whisperer" Cesar Malon, Via Email And By Phone Because I Figured If Anyone Could And Would Want To Give These Dogs A Chance, It Would Be Him. I Never Got A Response. I Was Told By A Recorded Phone Message, That He Had No Time Because He Was Busy Taping For His Show And While He Is Busy Teaching A Dog Not To Hump A Leg, 60 Or So Dogs Are Going To Die Because Of The Cruelty From People! The Offenders Will Get A Slap On The Wrist And They Will Continue On With What They Were Doing. The Money Is To Good For Them To Not! I Don't Know Who I Am More Upset With, Those People, Or Cesar, Or Myself Because I Can't Stop It.
Check Out The Story. It's In The Cincinnati Post Archives.
I Can't Remember The Headline, But I Would Suggest To Look Under Dog Fighting Ring Busted.
I Won't Watch Cesar Anymore. I Really Thought He Did Care, But He Doesn't. He's Like So Many Others, God Gave Him A Gift And He's Obviously Decided To Use It For His Own Profit. I Can't Imagine Why Else I Didn't Get A Response.
My Household Consists Of 4 Abused Dogs; One Of Which I Know Has Such A Story, I Can't Even Fathom That He Still Would Want Any Human Contact At All!
I Hate Animal Abusers And I Hate The Fact That All They Ever Get Is A Slap On The Wrist!!! And They Will Do It Again!!!
In The Meantime, These Babies Are Going To Die.....no Matter If I Speak Up Or Not......that Saddens Me, Hurts Me, Pisses Me Off And Makes Me Feel Helpless!! And, Still, No Matter How Helpless I Feel;..... I Know That They Truly Are. Puts A Whole New Look On Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't.....doesn't It?
