Hi,
I guess I'm just another parent grieving over losing one of the most loving dogs I have ever know. Mattie had been a abused dog when I got her from the Human Socitey (she was 3 years old). She had been beaten and never been around people so you was a very scared little girl.
She remained with me till today when I had to do the right thing. I decided my pain of losing her was not worth her pain and suffering of staying around. The pain is still so fresh and deep but so are the memories of this sweet, sweet little dog.
I counted on her for so much and she counted on me for so little. How can you ever really expect to get over losing one that is so close to your heart. I know over the days and weeks I will be able to adjust and continue but at the moment it seems so hard.
Thanks you for giving me this forum to talk about the love of my life, may you forever be my girl Mattie.
Every lasting love
Dad

I am sorry for your loss. I recently lost my family dog, Toby, and in searching for help coping with my grief, I came across this poem. Now every time I think about Toby, I think about the Rainbow Bridge and how I can't wait to get there. I hope it helps.
Rainbow Bridge
http://www.angelashes.com/images/poems/reflect_rainbow.jpgJust this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together......." :)

To Robin and Tori: Don't forget that you made the very best homes for your dogs and that they know how much you love them. Remembering that helps ease the pain. Hugs to you both.

I'm so sorry, run free Mattie. Is that her in your avatar? She was/is beautiful. You were such a wonderful person for helping her. I'm sure she repaid you most fully. You will meet again some day, at the rainbow bridge. She'll be waiting for you there. Happy and whole.
