Login problems 4/13/07

Wow, I had a hard time getting on the forum all day today...finally around 5:15pm I was able to log on.....and no one else was on....de ja vu or what? ;) Anyone else have trouble?

I was in the chat room last night when it went down around 1am ... and it was down all day until then.

Our nameserver was moved two nights ago without prior knowledge and took some time to propagate the IP's. It took more then 24 hours for me to be able to sign on, hopefully it is now all worked out and everyone is back online soon. :)

I had fits yesterday, Friday, no dog forum. Today it jumped right back goodie, goodie. Was lost Friday morning tried various times through the day and thought: Oh NO, did they quit. Relief today happy happy happy.:D

Some members are still not able to log in. I am not 100 % sure of what the problem is but here is my best shot. When the server moves, the number associated with the site changes (IP address) but the name (dogforum.org) does not. This means that when you type in "dogforum.org", your server takes you to the old IP address UNLESS your ISP has updated which IP addresses go with which names.

Apparently some ISPs takes up to 72 hours :eek: to update this info, so some members are going to be unable to visit the forum this weekend :mad: , and are going to have withdrawal symptoms!

It may be possible to get the IP address and if so, members can type THAT in to the URL line. We will do our best to provide updates here so that those of you who are in contact with members who cannot log in can pass this information on!

i had trouble too, but mine just kept coming up as error, page cannot be displayed! after like 17 times of retyping the address it finally came up!

i couldn`t sign in yesterday (friday) but it was friday the thirteenths sooooooooo go figure :)

I couldn't get in all day yesterday either, it was terrible! I was so afraid the forum was gone forever :(

Okay- I spent two hours on the phone - first with dell then my server company. They said the DNS setting/ server had been changed in the upgrade/maintence. They said depending on your server when it downloads changes in isp address that goes world wide- you would lose service from 12-72 hours. Most servers upgrade new changes every 48 hours. I am on now because my server company changed the "static" routing to come on. On monday we change it back if dogforum is back to normal..
MAN I MISSED YOU GUYS!!! I HAVE SO MUCH NEWS- and dumping the changes in the right threads..

We went with DSL finally and I was thinking something had gone wrong on our end. Everything else was working all right except this site. Good to know that everything is fine now. Even though I don't post much, I enjoy browsing around on here.:D

Yeah, I was on vacation for 2 days and I come back and no more dogforum!!!!

It was kinda scary. I thought it broke down or something....I started to look for other forums to join...but no other forum was as great as this one.

Yeah, you make tons of close friends on here. And just getting blown off like that...wasn't a very confortable feeling:(

Actually - having email addresses "somewhere" with a trusted admin wouldnt' be a bad idea. When my pen forum "collapsed" out of the blue a handful of us managed to stay in contact and create a new forum from the ashes. About 3 months later the original came back to life but never fully recovered as so many of us had moved on and grown comfy in the new setting. We had another forum to go to but not everyone on the original forum was aware of that other one so a lot of people were "lost" from the pen community for many months. Our "back-up" we formed is now one of the most active, if not the most active, in the collector's community.

my point is simply that maybe admin should have some sort of master list. Is the forum backed-up regularly for restoration if necessary? If so, could this allow admin to access a list if the site goes caput for more than a few days? Thereby having a way to reassure people that the problem is being worked on? Or perhaps someone who has a separate personal homepage or blog could be a resource in such a case - just so we don't crumble like the pen group did. Of course, it was weeks, not days, that caused the crumbling of that group but...

just some thoughts.

I forgot it was friday the 13th. I really dont believe in all that stuff....but what happened friday was awkward:)
