I think they're gorgeous dogs but have no personal knowledge of them. We have a member who recently joined who has a new cane corso pup.

This is a really tough breed. You need to be highly experienced in working hard driven breeds to have one. Active in obedience work, training etc .. They are a great breed, but you need to be seriously highly dedicated as they are a serious working breed, that need alot of training and socialization to say the least... I would suggest rethinking this. Alot of us admire a breed for whatever reason- BUT whether they fit in with our lives etc is another story.
We are both admire the GSP but the energy would not fit in with how we live- so we admire from afar.. leave the rest to those that want a ball of energy all the time.. No thank you- I love peace and calm.. Do I love the breed? yes.. Could I be what they need... NO..

In sweden we do not have as sharp dogs as you have here. most of them have less guard so I have those CC:s in mind.

Most Ive meet, is a bit bigger than a rottie, slimmed version of a mastiff. Very snuggly but they react more to strangers that behaves weird than the rotties I know do. so the ones Ive meet have a bit more guard in them. (the swedish rottweiler are behaving more like Golden retrivers, people ask if they can hug the rottweilers instead of crossing the street like here).

They need exercise though, mental and physical it is a working mastif and they are active. But as usuall, in the right hands they are great and awesome dogs. all Ive meet have been extremly lovable as long as you behave like a normal person.

Im moloss crazy so everytime I see anything big in dogway I ask owners if I can pet and ask questions just to learn more about different breeds.

yeah, you read right, Im almost 30 and still go up to people and ask if I can pet their dog. :D

Cane Corso is beautiful, but banned along with Ca de Bou, Brazilian mastiff, Presa Canario, all Pitties, Staffies, & bull terriers, Dogo Argentino, & Tosa Inu, in most area's of Colorado with there BSL. ...or Bull Sh:madsmiley:t Laws

Just be carefull where you move Cane Corso is banned in many places, and Iowa has the most restrictions on breeds that I've ever seen:

Rottweiler — Fairfield, Conrad, Lake Mills and Lockridge, Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Alaskan malamutes, Belgian malinois, Boerboels, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound, Mastiffs, Malamutes, Scottish Deerhound, Siberian Huskies — Fairfield, Iowa

Doberman pinscher — Fairfield, Iowa; Buffalo Center, Iowa. English mastiffs — Yale, Iowa.

. . . ..........:headscratch: ...............

If your dog weighs more than 100 pounds, he may be affected by size restrictions. For example, in Fairfield, Iowa, the following are considered restricted breeds: :wtf: Akbash, Anatolian shepherd, Alapaha blue blood bulldog, Borzoi, bull mastiff, Dogue de Bordeauxs, Estrela mountain dog, Great Pyrenees, Italian mastiff, Komondor, Kangal dog, Kuvasz, Leonberger, Neopolitan mastiff, Newfoundland, Otterhound , St. Bernard and the Spanish mastiff............. :kookoo: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,640199376,00.html (http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,640199376,00.html)

There are a very driven but beautiful breed. It's best if you have experience with domiant breeds, because they are a very domineering breed of dog.
Here's some good informational links :)

Gosh, I'm glad I don't live in Fairfield, Iowa. I'm curious as to why they ban Siberian Huskies. I don't know them to be an agressive breed.

Yeah, the cc is banned here too (Australia) and the siberian huskie may be soon to follow. There was a terrible inccident here recently where one killed an infant.

The Cane Corso is a large and dominant breed. Succumbing to bybs, one of the worse most fearful dogs I've ever seen was a CC. Others breed dogs with health problems and don't follow through on guarantees. (bad hips, cardiac problems, kidney problems, ect) If you are considering a CC then it is best to go to a reputable breeder for a good temperament and higher chance of proper health.

They are a very intelligent breed and really love attention from their owners. CC's often don't want to stray to far from their home or humans. Dominant doesn't always mean hard to train either. You just have to use the right training methods, push to hard and I find they will just push back or defy you. A calm and patient but firm approach works best. They are also very demanding for attention, like many other molossers, they will sit on you, lean on you or try to lay on you. They can suffer separation anxiety too.

CC can certainly try to dominant other dogs. Even those which are larger then them they have no problem showing they are the boss, even penning a larger dog on its back.

They tend to have a low-medium prey drive and a high defense drive. They are a guardian breed and have natural instincts to guard their property and defend their handler. They require training and socialization from a young age. They can be indifferent to strangers, but usually won't be aggressive. Other times they can be affectionate to guest, it all depends on the person, the dog and situation. Many will have natural protective instincts which they develop as they grow.

IMO they are an intelligent and trainable breed. My dog’s grandsire wasn’t imported into the country until he was 4yrs old. He didn’t really know anything. However he learned his obedience and even went on to compete/win in Red Star Irondog, K9 Pro Sports, Dog Sport and received his CGC as well. So it takes patience and training.

Gosh, I'm glad I don't live in Fairfield, Iowa. I'm curious as to why they ban Siberian Huskies. I don't know them to be an agressive breed.

The problem is that any breed can at least injure a person and sometimes kill.
Here is Huskies which killed a small boy.

The problem with that is it can be ANY breed so when will they stop? Ban all breeds? Dogs are too dangerous?

Great post. And I agree 100% to the above quote!! Soon all dogs will be banned, and we will be limited to stuffed animals.. but wait- those have choking hazards, so maybe we wont even get any of those!

I agree, very unfortunate that most people that are attracted to the breed are people that should not have them

I've been reading up on the Cane Corso a lot lately (I wanted to find out more about this beautiful breed after watching a TV program about them). They sound like excellent dogs, and they are gorgeous. They do need a lot of work in training though, so be careful.

Thankfully in Newfoundland no breeds are banned...yet. I really hope that BSL doesn't come here. :(
