I'm having her tested for FeLV, feline chronic renal failure, and having her thyroid levels tested., as well as her having her regular checkup (excluding the rabies shot, I decided I don't want her to have it). Should that cover the weight loss, and extreme intake of water (two bowls a day)?

You know...I would do the FeLV test and a complete panel of bloodwork. That way you could decide from there what is going on and do further testing along those lines, so you aren't spending your money on several different tests (renal, thyroid, etc). Keep an eye out for diabetes as well. Good luck to you, I hope they find something that is curable. Keep us posted.

I would have to agree that I'd do the FeLV test along with a standard blood panel before going to seach for specifics you can see if there's any reason to test further.

Well she went. The vet think it may be her kidneys :(
If it is my mother wants her euthanized because we don't have enough money. Aren't there organizations that help support medical needs for animals?

Have you considered a stabilizing diet for kidney failure? If she's not in immediate distress, I would try to put her on a good kidney diet & lessen the strain on her kidneys.

We don't know yet. We had a panel of bloodwork done so we'll know soon.

I'm so sorry to hear this ... and I do hope that his initial diagnosis isn't accurate. He should be able to give you some ideas on how to stabilize her condition if it turns out to be the case.
