I already have a pretty strong idea of what Cassie is mixed with, but since the vet said that she is a "mix of a mix" :) I thought I'd ask ya'll what you think is 'in her'. Something bratty, no doubt...

Lab, GSD crossed with something else. ;)

Yeah, Lab/GSD is always what I thought but...she's kinda small (just under 60 lbs). I would have thought a cross of those two would be bigger, which is why I was wondering about the "something else" ;)

I'm gonna go look up spitz's now, thanks Monkey!

she looks like one in the body, especilly basenji, does she have hard time barking? and are stubborn more catlike? in that case it resmbles of basenji temperament. They are a bit nuts :p

she is sooo cute though.. I just wanna snuggle her.. :D :D:D

Hahhahhahha, a hard time barking? Uh, no. She's a very prolific barker ;)

My Mom reckons she looks a bit more like a Belgian Shepherd...the Malinois?

But the ears on the basenjis...you may be right! Wikipedia says they are expert climbers - Cassie definitely displays *those* traits! She is a cutie but man, she's a handful sometimes. Today she took a piece of chicken right out of hubby's hand when he wasn't looking! :O I guess she figured - all food at dog-height belongs to her??

that could explain the black.. due to the fact that they devide the beligan shepherds due to color and coat. Wich means that different kinds can be born in one group. Like longhaired black would be named gronendal BUT then she would prolly have a longer coat. I say like this, the profile photo you have with ehr and the tail also look at the slender body and tiny paws and compare to basenji there it is REALLY alike. Id say basenji and a small/medium black dog. Or maybe a black spitz that would also explain the tail.. and the barking since several of the spitz are barking huntingdogs (chase after and bark and to have the elk to stand). That could override the non barking nature of the basenji dependning on what is genetic stronger trait wise..

ohh the belgian shepherds are divided in:

Long haired foxred and some black tips, tervurense (spelling)
long haired pure black, Gronendal
Curly grey brownish, lakenoia
shorthaired brownredish, mailnoia (swenglsih spelling on these four)
and since she is black and that is often a dominant color (of what Ive seen, depending a little on breed) she would prolly also be somewhat more longhaired due to the breeding of the belgians.
*thinking* i saw a genemap somewhere with colors and coats.. where was that..
That would be able to give you a hint of what is where when and what is possible.. due to mix and match and her outcome of guessing breeds..

Hi I think perhaps GSD/Belgian Shep.(Gronendael and perhaps a bit of Finish Spitz as they def. bark and are bigger than the basenji and can be black in colour as are the Gronendals.

I would venture to say she is Lab/Shepherd with those errect ears of the Shepherd and the color of a Lab, good cross if the parents had good temperment. She is so cute however no matter.

How much does she weigh? And is she full grown?

My first thoughts are lab x GSD (maybe that vet is right about a mix of those x a mix of those). Good looking dog though!

skunk, she is about 58 lbs and yep, full-grown. At least, she hasn't grown any in the 8 months she's been with us. I wouldn't put it past her to surprise us ;)

I love hearing what others think. I've been asked several times "oooh, what kind of dog is that??". I always want to come up with a snappy answer because people seem disappointed when I say she's a mutt, lol!

Do black labs often have white patches on their chest? My friends lab does, but they can't say if she's pure lab (she's not registered). Cassie does (and at her crotch, so ladylike) as well as a weird 'underfur' stripe on the underside of her tail. Not sure where that comes from.
