Hello Dog Forum Members Once Again! ^_~

Here you can share with us about your own personal top 10 favorite purebreds here and even top 10 of least favorite purebreds. I would love to hear your reasons why you picked them, although that part is optional. It would be interesting to see what everyone who posts has to say of there own personal taste. Do you think 10 is an reasonable number? I'll write my list tomorrow after I get my night's sleep. :D :o :p ;)

Hi :) My favourite 10 are:

Border Collie, my #1, they're just so cool and have such a big personality.
Bernese Mountain Dog, my #2, I love the look of this dog, but unfortunatly never seen one in person :(
Belgian Tervuren, my #3, I remember watching something on TV years ago and one of these was on it as a stray. Liked them since then.

Rest are not in order but are my other fav breeds.

I'm not keen on overly fluffy poodles. I'm not a fan of pit bulls. If I ever have a dog, it will most likely be a shelter dog, though.

Correction. I'm not keen on overly "sculpted" poodles. (Is that the correct term, when their coats are so carefully styled, like they do for shows?) My best friend's granddad had a poodle and I really think she was like a form of therapy for him, because he had to see to her food and toileting needs, and make sure she got some exercise and love. He never had her groomed in that very styled way, though, just the regular grooming. He did have to brush her if she got into dirt or sticks. It was very hard to see her in failing health and then to see him without her. She was much loved, that's for sure.

I'm not keen on overly fluffy poodles. I'm not a fan of pit bulls. If I ever have a dog, it will most likely be a shelter dog, though.

I like mainly the last thing you wrote, I think its great and wonderful when people go out and save a dogs life from a shelter, plus there are resuces for purebreds and just many other people/places that help dogs find homes. I think alot more people need to help the dogs already needing home, instead of buying from a breeder!

They say in quotes:

That one puppy you got from a breeder means that one more dog will be put down
that you could have gave a home to and have had saved,

I do know shelter/etc puppies get adopted first, because they are cute/small
and you can train them plus get to be with them for there own lives.

(not in order) All sighthounds, Greyhounds, whippets, borzoi's, Ibizan hounds, afgahn (with a shorter cut), irish wolfhound, deerhound, saluki, Azawakh , polish greyhound (A.K.A. Chart Polski ... BEAUTIFUL DOGS!!!) , Chippiparai, Rajapalayam, Galgo Español (Spanish Galgo), Magyar Agár (hungarien greyhound... also a very beautiful breed!), WINDHOUND (absolutely gorgeous!!!), Sloughi,

(NOTE: I included rare sighthounds, naturally of the above I will probably only ever own regular greyhounds and mybe a whippet or two...)




My least favourite breeds: 'chunky' or 'bulky' dogs. (pit bulls, rotties, staffies, dogo argentinos, bull terriers, ect.)

Frou frou dogs and/or really small furry, yappy dogs (Pugs and bulldogs, pekes, Shih-Tzu, Lhasa Apso
maltese, bichon frisé, chi, ect.)

Chinese Shar-Pei, Chow-Chows, Poodles, any Terriers and ABSOLUTELY NO designer breeds

5/them that leave their dogs in cars for too long in the sun...........
6/them that get fed up of the dog once its out of puppyhood and stops being "cute"
7/them that think obedience comes with making the dog fearful
8/ 9/ and 10 is all them that we all hate............ those that are neglectful, mistreat, hurt and abuse dogs/animals but i think on this forum 8/9/10 goes without saying

Very well put! :) And I'd add to that those owners who give their dogs an unjustice by never training them. I have seen some owners who'd let their dogs get into all sorts of mischief and trouble because they never care to help them learn rights from wrongs, and this can hurt a dog, too. :(

Any hound - sight or scent, while I love most of both in appearance and personality, I have a really hard time living with them. My patience level just isn't high enough for them I guess.

Boxer - Again, I don't have enough tolerance/patience for them.

Anything in the toy group excluding Papillons -Anything under 20lbs just doesn't appeal to me.

Any of the terriers -They just aren't my type at all for various reasons.

Anything with a super long (Beardie, Afghan) or corded coat (Puli, Komondor). - Just too much maintenance for me.

unlike purebreds, but purebreds are a certien look, etc. :) some purebreds I cant own


dont suit lifestyle, dont perfer them, etc.
I have lots of favorites in small, med, large dogs, so I am not dising any size, etc.


Even the ones I dont perfer, etc. I still admire them. Even if there not my cup of tea.

Great Danes... they are very comical and true gentle giants.
English Bulldogs... My son has had two and they are wonderful family pets
Viszla.... Very natural hunters and superb family members
LH Chihuahua... Zoey is very intelligent, well mannered and friendly.

Least favorite ... hmm not sure I have any but there are dogs I admire I would not want to own either due to upkeep, exercise or other factors.

I have to disagree with number 4. Dogs do not have a sense of time like we do. If only dog owners that could stay home with their dogs got to own them, there would be a lot more homeless dogs. I have the privilege of working out of my home but my extended family members do not. My older brother has two of the most loved and well trained dogs I have ever seen. They are not at all neglected nor harmed by both working...

Favourites: Border Collie (intelligent and energetic), Alsation (if given training and love, a lovely companion), Golden Retriever (goofy but loyal), Basset Hound (they always know what you're thinking), Cocker Spaniel (FLUFFY!!!!). That's my top 5 pedigrees.

Dogs with smushed-up faces: It just seems un-doglike
Wolf-dogs: Wolves are beautiful and one of my favourite animals, but a wolf-dog is basically a dog that thinks it's a wolf. It's like putting a wolf in a cage, in my opinion.
Toy breeds: They're cute, but so yappy!

Oh how I miss Cat... husband named her Cat Ballou she got a little overweight after Brian retired her from the fields and the grandkids arrived and fed her lots of snacks :)

Awww, not many people like my widdle Knuckles :( But I think he's wonderful and I will be honest with you all, I was quite suprised when my boyfriend told me he wanted a maltese x as I've never really liked them. But, once we brought our little boy home I fell in love with his sweet personality and I think he's the cutest thing ever!

Alrighty here is my list.

#1 Doberman Pinscher- I grew up with the breed my parents bred and showed them. My dad was raised in Germany by my grandparents who bred the breed as well and so did my great grandfather. My father likes to say Dobermans are in our blood. I feel the same way. I love the breed.

#2 English Bull Terrier- I fell in love with the breed when I was a child. I loved Spuds Makenzie and actually collect Spuds stuffed animals and figurines whatever I could find really. I researched the breed for years and eventually got my own EBT named Sky. I just love the breed I love their looks and their personality.

#3 Siberian Husky- I can't say I have been a fan of the breed for long. I always thought they were beautiful but not for me. But when I took in Tawnee I fully fell in love with the breed. I love how they vocalize and I love their soulful eyes. I also love their energy and just "everything is great" personality.

#1 American Pit Bull Terrier
I've been around them since I was little and have always loved their beauty, strength, intelligence, willingness to please and loving nature. I like athletic working dogs, they have shown to be extremely versatile for both work and sport. A healthy, balanced (in both temperament and build) bulldog capable of multi jobs in one dog.

for the rest no order really

Boerboel - I like the look and size, large but gentle, protective, a capable working mastiff. The only drawback I find is being slow to mature and fear stage but its worth it.

Cane Corso - I love their beauty, they are very graceful for their large size. They have a very loving nature, can be smart, and love to play. They are so goofy and just a joy to have around.

Belgian Malinois - A breed to keep me on my toes. High strung yet highly intelligent and capable of versatile work. Some don't like their looks but I sure do.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier - Very similar to the American Pit Bull Terrier. I plan to have one sometime in the future.

Dutch Shepherd - Somewhat similar to the Belgian Malinois. Not sure if I will own a Dutchie or not, I've looked into them along with the Beauceron. I just really can't decide.

Kangal - A gentle and nurturing dog towards their "flock" a fierce dog towards a threat. Very interesting look and great size in such an overall nice, balanced package. Will get a pair sometime.

Alano Espanol - Another rugged working bulldog. Very attractive in their build and looks. Seem to be somewhat versatile with a few drawbacks. Might still consider one.

Canaan Dog - I think these are very interesting. I like their wild look, plus extremely silky coat, and they really seem like my kind of dog. Tenacious, enthusiastic, and energetic.

Perro Cimarron - For one their looks attract me as well as their working abilities. The sound of their overall temperament and attitude intrigues me as well. I might plan to ad one to our family at some point, just not sure about who is a trustworthy source. So that leaves me hesitant.

See a trend there? I dislike those breeds mainly due to the owners. They turn out spoiled and snappy with horrible personalities. I'm sure if they were raised right they would be okay.

a good question as we could all upset each other with our likes and dislikes but what the hell heres mine

the top ten.................

1, bullmastiff (had to put that or mine would not talk to me)
2, leon berger (or my brother would not talk to me)
3, rottweiler (there are no bad dogs just bad owners)
4, boxer (just love the look of them)
5, great dane (fine powerfull dog)

I love:
1. English bull terriers as they look gorgeous and unique,
2.Staffordshire bull terriers as they are so friendly,
3. Greyhounds/whippets as they are lazy in the house but so fast outside,
4.German Shepard's that are trained as otherwise they can be out of control too easily,
5.Rhodesian ridgebacks just because I do,
6.Doberman's because they are great,
7. Rotweilers cause they are great even with bad publicity,
8. Great danes the clues in the title,
9.Labrador's
10. working type cocker spaniels.
But I also like Tibetan mastiffs and I can't understand why they are rare in England, the first ones I saw were at a show in thame Oxfordshire England last year if anyone has some can you post pics of them pppppplllllllleeeeeeeaaaaaasssssseeeee I love them.

My least favourite are just the least favourite breeds that I like to see in boarding kennels because they need to be out most of the day not in kennels and I like most of them when I see them out walking and were mine out,

1.Labradoodles I've never met one out of work but have been hit by metal doors at work after trying to get in their kennel and they jump up when you just open the door and the door mostly hits your face,
2. Springer spaniels, these type of dogs don't want to be in kennels all day and are very well built for work so pull when they can only get walked in the leads at work,
3.Weimaraner's for the same reason as springers,
Can't think of any more that I don't like apart from dogs that are allowed to run riot and are pains.

Pit Bulls (can argue very strongly about the laws against these brilliant breeds) :)

I know they are quite different, they are just dogs that I have been close to and have found that they are lovely breeds with great temperaments. I would like people who are interested in the same dogs to talk to me. I love American Bulldogs, they are brilliant!! :)

Oh no, a couple of people have put chows in their 'disliked' group! :)
But at least some have put them in their 'fave' group as well to make up for it!

Just for information BTW, chows aren't a 'designer' breed - they're one of the oldest breeds around; so old in fact that their lineage is often disputed, as they have blue tongues and the same number of teeth as bears (not dogs), and with their appearance a few actually claim that they're a 'missing link' between dogs and bears! If anyone is interested, I've got quite a bit of information on the history of the chow (I'm not going to bore everyone with it here!), so let me know if you want to know anything.

As for my favorites and least favorites...I'm sitting firmly on the fence!! :D
I can't think of any breeds I particularly don't like...I don't like the way some breeds are bred, but that's not the dogs fault is it?! :)
Plus of course I've not spent enough time with a lot of breeds to get an idea of them!

Westies
GSD
Cocker spaniels...

I have seen two Labradoodles and they both looked completely different.

My favourite dog breeds:
1. Lhasa Apso - I love showing them and i love their personalities (stubborn little devils but if you have their respect then they'll do anything for you) although I hate spoilt lhasas as they can be nippy wee things.
2. Rotties - I just love big cuddly rotties. I think they get a bad press all too often.
3. Dogue du Bordeux - I've loved them! Ever since turner and hooch!
4. Bull Mastiffs - OMG! I think they are some of the loveliest dogs in the world.
5. Boxers - I love the daftness of boxers! I've never met one which doesn't get over excited at the word WALK!
6. Newfoundland - Newfies are so beautiful -the only thing that puts me off is the drool.
7. Alaskan Malamute - I've been in a malamute sandwich! An experience to be had! The male jumped up and put his paws on my shoulder and was face to face with me while his sister went behind me and did the same! If i wasn't a malamute fan before - i certainly was after!
8. Shiba Inu - I just think they are lovely dogs and i love their fox like face.
9. Large Munsterlander - Love them! My favourite gundog definitely!
10. Flatcoated retriever - I love flatcoats. They're so happy, crazy and excited all the time!

As you can see I'm not really a small dog fan, with the exception of my own breed (and absolute favourite), lhasas. But they're not really small dogs - they're just big dogs in a small body!

I have recently seen Rottie/Border collie x Staffy....imagine that!

The most insane cross I've met was a staffy x jack russel, it had the JRT killing instinct and jaws of a staffy...hmmm

A member of the forum's chihuahua and staffy accidentally had puppies a few months ago too
