View Full Version : Crying
I have a mild concern about one of the newborns. I know constant crying is a sign of a problem...but we have one pup that, as long as she's nursing she's quiet but if she's trying to sleep you constantly hear her crying. I will go and pick her up and hold her and she'll instantly fall asleep in my hands w/ no more crying but goes back to crying as soon as I lay her down. The other 3 are perfectly fine the majority of the time. Is there something I should be concerned about?

hi i take it she is feeding ok?. You can sometimes get the odd wingey one
oh yeah, she's feeding great. All 4 of them are in fact. She's even the biggest of the litter. I just didn't know if I should be concerned that she cries whenever she's not feeding until I pick her up.

you often do get a "noisy one" in a litter, especially when they are feeding. Providing she's gaining weight i would think she's fine.

I had a puppy do that a few years ago, it turned out that she was getting windy after feeding and got a belly ache. When i picked her up, she would often burp, otherwise i'd burp her and cuddle her for a bit, then put her back with mum.
She settled straight away in my arms, could be because of the cuddles, the calm disposition i made sure i had while handling the pups, or maybe just the burping!
I'd be inclined to get the puppy checked by your vet if you find that she is still doing it.
Good luck

i had never taken that into consideration...i'm not sure if she's burping when i pick her up but i'll listen for it next time. She's been relatively non-whiney today :) I can't believe how big they've gotten in just 5 days too! Hopefully they'll open their eyes soon!! It's all just so exciting

My two babies, now 16 months old didn't open their eyes until they were 11 days old. and then the fun started lol

the vet tech was telling me that they could have their eyes open as early as 7-8 days old b/c of the nature of their breed. but i'm sure it'll be a "blast" when they can see. When do their ears tend to open up?

Their ears and their eyes tend to open within a few days of each other, but its been noted that healthy chubby babies often open their eyes later due to their not needing to see to survive as some of the skinnier puppies.
cant wait to see pix!
