After reading alot on dog foods, and never finding the 'right' one, I've desided it would be healthier to just make my own food at home. I read this.. http://www.ehow.com/how_12697_make-homemade-dog.html ..and it seems easier then I thought. I was just wondering how much I should put in? I know to have 40 percent meat, 30 percent vegetables and 30 percent starch (or al least that's what it says on the website) Sammy is about 40lbs. Also what kindas of meats, vegtables, and starch should I use? is there any wabsites that have actual recipies? anything useful! Also any infromational sites about Homemade Dog Foods is appreciated, like the one I posted above.

That's WAY too much plant matter. Dogs are carnivores, not omnivores (although they do eat some plant matter, it doesn't make up 60% of their diet. I've seen this a lot on a lot of websites and I find it disturbing to say the least. You may want to contact a canine nutritionalist.

Also, I know you're not feeding raw, but this site : http://rawdogranch.com will give you a better idea of what kind of diet is closer to what our puppers should be getter.

My ridgeback also gets her meals prepared at home. She weighs 40kg (i think about 80-90lbs) and I mix 360grs of kangaroo meat - raw, 2.5 cups of a good premium dry food, 2.5 cups of either cooked plain pasta or rice and about half a cup of cooked vegetable. With vegies, its important to blend them or puree them as dogs cannot digest vegetable matter very well and the goodness won't be properly absorbed. Isometimes add a raw egg or some sardines or any other canned fish. With vegies, I find the best way is to microwave them and then mash it. She has been on this diet for about 3 months and seems quite happy, her fur is very shiny and because kangaroo meat is very lean (you may be able to find a similar product where you are) she has lost her unwanted fat (also 2 hours of walking a day has helped!) She also gets a dry biscuit in the morning and a piece of toat. Every second day she'll also have a lovely marrow bone for her teeth.
good luck:)
