lol

well I've had Sammy since February and hadn't given him a bath until tonight... he kept having "accidental" baths in the ditches as the ice was melting, so he hasn't been too dirty... but his white patches were turning grey so I thought it was time!

Got some all natural "mango tango" shampoo from pet planet.

He was scared to go in the tub, even when I went in first and tried to lure him in with treats. I ended up picking him up and putting him in the tub... first time I have EVER seen him with his tail between his legs! He relaxed as the bath progressed though... poured water over him, rubbed his tummy, shampooed... rinsed... I didn't do as good of a job as I wanted to because he was still nervous, lol. Next time! Hopefully he'll get used to it... lots of tummy rubbing will help! Then he shook off and got the ENTIRE bathroom wet (including me) and of course he's shedding so there's hair everywhere... so funny!

Anyway, I had a good time... not sure he liked it so much, lol.

Must have been the night for it. Ozzy went outside tonight & apparently found every puddle he could find & was an absolute muddy mess. So, off to the shower we went. He's squeaky clean now too. I have a walk in shower & just get in there with him. No sense in try to stay dry with a golden.

I trained my dogs to walk in the tub and this is how. First I start when its not bath time. I walk the dog in a tub. If the dog starts a fight- pushing back- you have committed yourself- get the dog in the tub.. lol.. Then I do not pet the dog while the dog is nervous or excited - as soon as the dog relaxes ( signs of this is a exhale) by the dog- thats a stress relief signal - etc. I give a treat they really like - piece of hot dog, wait for them to finish- slowly them the step out. If the dog starts to charge the door of the bathroom- stop stand still making sure this WHOLE TIME you are calm as well.. Then later we do it again- .. by the 3rd time- the dog steps willingly in time- I treat- step out but no next time I can add the water running.
Next time- same thing- walk in the tub,, Then I turn on the water but slowly so it doesnt spook the dog and let it run but not really wetting the dog- praising quiet.. calmly ...
My dogs learned this so well- if femka wants a cookie or zubin, and I wont give them one- if the bathroom doors are open- they will get in the tub.. lol..
Also - after a bath they get a cookie..

Hee hee, must of been a real blast for you klewis, lol :D

With Shelby I have her follow me up to the bathroom, and she knows that its time for a bath, I start the water, get the temp just right, and while she is sitting by me waiting for me to give the okay, I say "okay" and she gracefully goes into the tub. We have a shower that is also a tub, so there is a ledge/wall, whatever you want to call it, lol...and I'm amazed at how gracefully she gets in, even with the ledge there! and balances herself so well :) She never slips or falls.

When we're done with the bath, I let her shake off a few times, pull the curtain across so the bathroom doesn't get wet, "ring" out her fur, have her wait until I lay down a big towel on the floor, and then say "okay" and she comes out and I'm standing by with a big bath towel, and quickly put it around her and start drying her off :)

I can give Shelby a bath in about 20 mins. give or take :) How long does it take you to give a dog a bath?

LOL Klewlis, sounds like he needed it, and he'll get used to them soon enough.
Sounds as though he had fun drying though hehehe.

Lol! Sounds fun:p Syd always has his tail up in the tub. He loves it. We have to give him baths often because he's white. It's easy because he loves the bath, so I don't mind him getting dirty:D
