Im running quite much on my computer so with the folding program Im almost using the whole capacity and some more. It decided to crash..
But when I started it up again it didnt continue where it left off. I didnt see the countdown or anything. now it is just saying: waiting for core and a number also downloaded something but I got a downloading error nr 13.
What does all this mean??
Thankies!

Up at the top where it says it couldn't find the work directory - is that the first time you ran the program? If so, that's just fine and completely normal. Down below, it shows the work unit cruising along just fine until the program was shut down. Nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. The log does not show the work unit not picking up where it left off.
Could you walk me through exact when you got the error and what the program did in response to it?

Well I was overloading my computer.. I run 2-3 browsers, skype, msn, googletalk, and my email.. that one downloads in average 8 emails/min it checks every minute due to this.. all of a sudden things started really go slooooow... sometimes I need to reboot browsers cause they dont let go of the ram. So the program was none responding, so I closed it and ever since then when I open it it says error at same time, it starts downloading and then error again.. etc etc..
I just realize it doesnt even show when it crashes... I just see it on my screen and nothing in the log..

The folding program will not cause the system to overload because it automatically scales back usage when other programs need to use the processor. It does this by telling Windoes that the folding program has a low priority while the vast majority of programs are labeled as normal. The scaling happens in a blink of an eye (faster, really), so there's no issue with it lagging at all.
Anyway, find your folding directory, and delete the work directory. You will lose your unfinished work, but that should reset everything and get you back in business.

So in other words- since it says it is running, and although I cant see the icon, - it just scaled back for now, and should return?
I really hate to loose what it already did. It was flying last night.. and my computer is telling me its running- I just cant see it.

If you don't see the icon in the tray for the graphical version, the program is not running. When it is running, the icon will stay down there, but the program will take a back seat to anything else that needs to use the computer's processor. One way you can see this in action is to open your task manager. The exact way to do this depends on your operating system. The most common ways are to right click on your menu bar and select the task manager option or to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL once (and only once or else you'll reboot!) and pick the task manager option. Once it's open, click on the processes tab and then click on the CPU column once or twice until it's sorted descending (0s on the bottom, higher numbers on the top). The FahCore__.exe is the folding process. The CPU usage will be high when the computer is not otherwise being used (it will show as 50-100%, depending on your setup). When you're running other programs actively, you'll see that number scale back. Try it out, and you can see it in action.

Okay it says its running between 92- 95 on the cpu .. It also says its " low priority" Should I change that?
Oh well.. I wanted to see it to see where my numbers were today. But it is running..

No, definitely leave it at low if you want your computer to run well when you're performing other tasks. It gives the best mix of folding progress and system performance.
If you're not seeing an icon in the tray nor are you seeing a window (minimized to the task bar or otherwise), it sounds like you're running the console version as a service. That is a good option for people who don't want to see their desktop cluttered while folding, but it does present some complications with shutting down the program properly. I seem to recall you running the graphical version, though, so most likely there's just some glitch that's keeping the icon from being visible. Things should be fine after your next reboot.

Without the icon, I can not " quit" before I shut off.. Should I reboot?

If you can locate the .exe for the program, running that MAY restore the icon without rebooting. It's been a while since I've used the graphical version, so I'm a wee bit rusty on the finer points of massaging it. Once you find the .exe, you'll notice a FAHlog.txt file. If you are going to reboot solely for the purpose of restoring the icon, wait until that shows you've finished your work unit to ensure you won't lose anything (or at least not much).
If you want to keep track of your progress, there's a nifty little program called FahMon that pulls a lot of things together. There's more info in my folding FAQ.

The icon could be hidden, and all she needs to do is expand the system tray. She downloaded the graphical version of the program. I was on the phone with her when she did it.

PERFECT!! Its back!
Okay all- I learned something. If you do not see the "kog" icon when you start your computer back up, let the computer come up normally, use a program or two, log off properly off the programs, and " restart" the computer.. It came right back on!! And didnt loose anything and the Wu is almost done too!
Thank you for your help. Us "newbies" to this will have a few questions as we come " on board".. THANK YOU!

Even the pros have questions from time to time, so by all means keep firing off anything you might have. There will be a true strumpter from time to time, but most everything can be resolved fairly easily and painlessly.
