Some of the recent threads prompted me to tell his story. It's been probably 3 years now, but he's forever in my heart.

One day, I was with some friends and this guy, Jason, stopped by. He had a pittie with him that he called Max, he had just found him on the side of the road. He was a little bit thin but nothing too bad, really goofy and had a wonderful personality. Now Jason is/was a bit of a redneck, a liar, and overall just not the best person I've ever met. Never liked him much. A week or two later, I went to his house and he had Max tied up outside on a short chain. No food or water in reach, just an old dirty butter container that was turned over. He looked a little bit thinner, but I thought it was my imagination. I asked Jason if he had been feeding Max, and he didn't reply-I gave him some water and some chips and told Jason to get some Ol'Roy or something, at the very least. He let the Max off the chain to run around, I played with him awhile and I left out of there.

I didn't come back for a few weeks, and then basically came back to check on the dog. I was with a friend and we sort of dropped by unexpectedly. Jason wasn't home, but Max was-and he was just skin and bones. Weighed maybe 20-25lbs at the most, should of been more like 50-60 lbs. He looked like a walking skeleton. I was so upset-I was sitting in my car trying to get ahold of Jason, and he crawled up onto my lap and was just laying there in my arms. I fed him what I had left of my mcdonald's (a few french fries) and finally got ahold of Jason. I told him I'd leave him $30 (all the cash I had) under his doormat and would take Max right then. He argued with me that he was perfectly fine, and that was his "huntin' dog" and was worth a lot more than that. I told him he wouldn't hunt all that great when he was dead-and offered to leave a a $50 check and the $30 cash I had. No luck, told me to come back in a few hours when he got off work and we could discuss it. I told him I was just going to leave him the money and take the dog, but he told me he'd have me arrested for stealing. I should of just taken the dog, I regret that so much-no way he would of gotten away with the arrest threat-but I figured heck, what's a few hours, and left until Jason got home.

He lives on a quieter road, but right off the main road where people fly down it. He told me he'd be at his uncle's house which is right before his house. So when I came back, I was still with my friend, and we were approaching his house-there was something lying in the middle of the road. It was Max. :( We pulled into the driveway and ran back out, called Jason to get out there. He was still half alive, but couldn't get up and was barely conscious-he still wagged his tail when I came over. It was pitch dark at this point, so Jason gave us a big halogen flash light to wave cars around us and ran to get his truck. We were successful in getting cars to avoid us, but this one car was going really fast and not slowing down-we get kept waving the flashlight and our arms but they didn't slow down at all, and just kept coming straight toward us-me and my friend jumped just barely out of the way in time to see Max get hit and dragged about 50 feet down the road and to hear that death cry. The guy in the car stopped right afterwards, backed up hitting Max again as we were running towards him, and yelled at us about being in the middle of the road. He peeled out and hit Max AGAIN. It was sickening.

Jason came back right afterwards. He sort of shrugged his shoulders, said "Oh well" picked up what was left and threw it in the back of the truck. He went to the back of his house to bury him-I couldn't even go with him, I was so upset. The whole time, Jason was blaring "Because I Got High" on the radio. I left very shortly afterwards and I've never spoken to Jason again. Max was supposed to be MY dog-whatever happened when I went back, I was going to make sure Max came home with me. I will never ever forget him-I don't think he had a good day in his whole life, especially since Jason got ahold of him. I only knew him a short while, but I wish things had turned out differently-I wish I had just taken him.

I did hear, a few months after this incident, that he had a dog that had puppies that he didn't want-so he took them down to the river, tied them up in a tree, and used them as alligator bait. He's been in and out of jail now for a while and I hope he stays there for good. :(

Man thats a terrible story. Jason needs to stay in jail. Its sad that someone can be so cold-hearted. Terrible, sorry you had to witness that horrible event. {hugs}

:sad-smiley-002: So sad. I'm so sorry for Max. Humans can be such horrible creatures. I'm hoping that guy is locked up for a very long time too.

Whenever I hear stuff like this, the shotgun in my mind cycles.
