Hello!

A question came across my mind as I was looking for breeders of both cats and dogs. I was just wondering. Will responsible and reputable breeders have websites? As far as the majority of them? Or does it not really matter?

Thanks!

Not all of them also have interest in computers or like to be contacted via email. Many will prefer being contacted by phone. I wouldn't consider this as in indicator in either direction.

Depends honestly, some do have sites, some bad ones has sites. Some people want to go by word of mouth,
or close by area's or only let other showers know about the kittens. Not everyone is in tech stuff.
Could be anything really. Yeah Phone is usually perfered over e-mail.

Why you asking about cats in the: Dog General Discussion (http://www.dogforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=6)? Silly!

Glad to have helped. I helped some people find dogs from breeders, on the internet, they told me there, goals, price, how far away the pup can be, etc. Then I looked on the net and found them the puppy of there dreams. My aunty wanted a cocker spaniel, shes so cute!! Then helped some other people. Arn't I helpful!? Then I had to look up cocker spaniel names for my aunty, tsk tsk lol.

A lot of ethical breeders have websites.

The difference is that their web sites are generally not all about selling puppies. The main purpose of having a web site for the majority of ethical breeders is to showcase their own dogs and their accomplishments. They'll also post photos and accomplishments of dogs that were bred by them.

They may post a pedigree of a planned litter, but they seldom post sales prices, contracts or shipping information. They will not transact a sale entirely by email. Here is an example of an ethical breeders website. Notice there is mention of a current litter but no purchase details. http://www.bleugras.com/index1.html This breeder is one of the most respected individuals in the breed.

Ethical breeders may also have extremely modest websites containing little more than contact information and a background of their involvement in the breed. Here's a link to an example of a modest website. You'd never guess by looking at it that this breeder is a legend in the breed. http://home.flash.net/~hainholz/

Disclaimer: I have no connection to either of these breeders. They are used only as examples based on reputation and respect throughout the breed community as well as their ongoing contributions to the breed!

Thanks everyone for your comments! Applesmom those links were great examples. It's really hard to find reputable breeders...unfortunatly:( .

I have found some breeders that explain everything! Shipping, pricing (though they say the pricing depends on the litter, if they are more show qualitiy, they'll be more)

It was just a question that came across me...thanks everyone!

I like being able to look at websites but I will not overlook a breeder who doesn't have one.
In France, websites are brand new things and a lot of great breeders don't have one as of yet cos it costs money to keep it,up.

I agree. It's nice to see a breeder and their animals. I mean sometimes a great breeder my not be near by your area. Maybe even in another state. So it's always nice to see from pictures:)

So true! A website can be expensive and many breeders would rather spend that money on their dogs! ;) An honest breeder doesn't really need a website to place puppies. Word of mouth and reputation provides the majority of the homes.

Also,
All the breeders,I go to,are recognized by the breed's club and the good rep/ of a good breeder, will, often enough, comes from words of mouth.
I also like the follow up of a breeder on a purchase.I don't want to feel that I'm being an object from internet. The phone and the e-mail is for me,just as effective.

Agreed. I wouldn't recommend any breeder that didn't belong to at least the local breed club.

There is a purpose for breed clubs and that is the interaction of members and participation in a continuous learning process about the breed.

Take a look at Eve's commitment to her puppy buyers as posted on her website. http://www.bleugras.com/services.html Planning a litter and placing the puppies is just the beginning of a long term commitment to the puppy and the owner!

Puppy mills, pet shops, online puppy sellers and BYB don't offer that type of commitment.

I use "Hostway". It really wasnt much money, but they do not put pop ups or ads on your site. I do pay a 14 dollars a month fee, but the site is registered as well.
Although we have a large waiting list, the pups will be posted so people can see the pictures. The site is easy to add etc. That way, people can see everything without sending emails of pictures that take a long time to load. And some peoples email, if you put too many pictures it kicks it back to you..
