Hi forum!

This morning I found 2 stay kittens laying in the ditch next to our house. They were covered with flies and shaking. I fed them some milk (cows milk) until I remembered it can be poisonous to them. So I ran to Walmart bought everything I could think of that they needed and got back home just a while ago.

I know Walmart isn't the best store for supplies, but they were on the verge of dying and Wal-mart is/was the closest store.

They are not even 2 pounds it seems like. One male and one female. The male is very loving and so is the female. The female though is very hyper and always getting into something.

I'm extremely tired right now. I'm having to feed them every 2 hours. I think they are probably about a week in a half old:o .

From what I know my mother found a person who wants one already and is experienced with newborn kittens. And my aunt may want one as well, MAYBE!!!

Anyways, like I said, I'm tired out. I have been at Walmart looking for supplies. Trying to feed them and make the formula. I had to go visit my babies next door (huskies) and then groom Basil, and feed everyone, then I had to walk Basil!!!!!

I'm so sleepy:sleepsmiley02: LoL....but anyway....:p

Kudos to you for rescuing them. Yes, you're right ... no cow's milk for cats as they don't digest it well but it isn't poisonous so don't worry too much. How old are they? If they're close to 2 pounds, they are likely 2 months old ... many breeds are 1 pound at 1 month, 2 pounds at 2 months, etc. If they are 8 weeks old, they are more than ready for real kitten food.

Can you post some pics so I can see how old they might be?

Yeah, I just want them to find homes already LoL. Now I know how Brittany feels.:o

I rescued them mainly because there is a hawk around here with babies....so not a doubt she would've got one or both if I didn't come sooner. They are funny little guys. But tons of work.

I think they are maybe a pound in a half maybe 2 pounds. I'll post pictures this evening. I need to buy some batteries for my camera.

At 4:00 I'll be fedding them again. I can hold them in one hand, so they are super tiny....

LoL, thanks. I don't think my mom...well see my mom she isn't that much of an animal lover. She is with our animals, but not strays or anything. I think I'll live maybe I could sneak a nap lol

Good job in rescuing them! You will do wonderful, and YES its alot of work but worth every minute of it. Have fun and one more than, GET SOME REST. Don't do what i did, and think you will be okay without a little sleep. Try to sneak in as much time napping as possible. Set an alarm clock or something, because every min of sleep you lose will catch up with you in the long run. It will make you feel sick!! I was so busy that i was losing lots of sleep and just stopped eating because i was just too busy then i started feeling sick. But i had to stopped and slow down a little and think about myself also!!! Everything will work out!!! GOOD JOB!:D ;)

If they weigh 1-1/2 pounds, they are more than likely closer to 6-8 weeks of age. They should be old enough for regular food & you can change to 3-4 times a day for feedings of regular kitten food.

Yeah thanks Brittany!!! I'll try to get some rest, I'm pooped out!!! I don't know how you do it. It's all working out right now. I ate and they are at my aunts house, she's babysitting. I'm going to rest and hopefully get Some sleep;) ....thanks again. I'm glad I rescued them. They are fun, and like you said, it's worth it:thumb:

Thanks Katz!!!! For your advice. I'll try that. So I would give them semi-dry or is pure dry food ok to give?

I would take kibble & soak it in some kitten milk replacer or warm water if you don't have that or use a good canned kitten food.

dogluver4
05-02-2007, 08:11 PM
Ok, I'll give that a try.I have the milk formula so I'll probably soak it. Maybe tomarrow I'll go out and buy some...I'm giving them milk now, is that still ok?

Sorry I'm a first time mother here :D

KatzNK9

Yes, as long as it is milk replacer for kittens it is fine. You could also cook up some boiled chicken & rice or some instant mashed potatos.

Ok, that's great! And of course water is ok now? ;)

I have Nabisco already. She's a spayed female about 3 years old. I tried to introduce the kittens to her and she hissed and looked at them like she wanted to kill them. How do you introduce a cat to a kitten? I mean Nabisco is EXTREMELY mean!!!! I would'nt be surprised if she did kill them.

My aunt may keep one and we live next door so Nabisco is in both yards. I'm a bit nervous and hesitant about my aunt keeping one because of Nabisco

I wouldn't work on trying to introduce them at all. Kittens are at risk of illness more than your adult cat as a general statement; however, in the case of found kittens, you have no idea what kind of risk they are to your cat. I'd avoid contact.

My general "no budging" rule when introducing a new cat to a household is THIRTY (30) DAYS of isolation from all other cats in the household & testing for FeLV & full blood panel & not until after then 2nd set of vaccines just like with a puppy. So, keeping them isolated is best.

Last we talked in the chat room, I understood they were well on their way to becoming the little poop machines that they're supposed to be. Today's agenda was to look for some good kitten food & get them off milk and onto real food to firm up those stools. I think that's where we stand with these little babes.

Thanks everyone! They are getting fatter thank God. I took them a bath today, that went ok:D . I bought the kitten food for them and they ate it like crazy!!!! Everything's good here. I think Basil and Nabisco and the huskies miss me though, I feel bad.

They are both little trouble makers and love to sleep.

I'm enjoying this experience though :thumb:

Thanks everyone for your help!

Wow! How cruel for someone to leave kittens in a ditch:( I'm soo glad you saved them:)

Great news! Glad to hear it! Sounds like they're back on the right track with a little extra nourishment. Cats sleep about 60% of the time & kittens sleep even more than that. While they're awake though, they can cause quite a bit of trouble.

Sounds like all is well there! Excellent!

My mothers co-worker is taking both tomarrow morning (Saturday) at around 11:00. I'm sooo sad:( :sad-smiley-002:

'm kinda in tears as I'm writing this:o I really don't want them to go.

I loved them 1st
I saved them from death
They were mine babies first
They relied on me for life
I cleaned them and took care of them
They were my 1st babies EVER:eek: :sad-smiley-002:

They are leaving me.....I'll probably never see them again....I'm cherishing every moment right now....

Oh gosh, this is way harder than I thought.....my babies are leaving me:sad-smiley-002:

Their new owners will love them, take them to the vet, get them spayed/nuetered, and care for them, but........no one will love them like I have/did/do.....::sighs::

Someone please make me smile:o

Awwwwwwwwww, I know exactly how you feel. I bred cats for 20 years & had to place some very special kittens in good homes. I made sure I found good, loving homes & was available 24/7, 365 days a year for the new owners ... you can be there for support too. Just know that now you are free to once again help new animals who are in need of help. THAT IS A VERY GREAT THING. Don't be sad! You did a WONDERFUL thing!

You did a great thing for them. Don't forget that.
