Hello, i have 2 shelties, both male ,and mainly outdoor dogz. But we r going to get a new baby sheltie pup, and well its been awhile since my boyz have been pups, and i was wondering, just in general, any tips? I mean like the 1st day, 1st night tips, stuff like that.........Ok when ya'll 1st got ya'lls new pup, what did ya'll do? Did you leave him/her alone, play with him/her, give me some ideas plzzzzz. Oh yeah and 1 more thing, i know when u get a new puppy, they have to go out all the time, but did ya'll wake up in the middle of the night to take them out???

Thanks

I cant wait to get my little Basil

If you get an 8 week old pup you will have to get up every few hours in the middle of the night to take him or her out. They can only hold it for like an hour for every month old they are. Or maybe an hour more than that, can't remember exactly. Anyways, and 8 wk old pup probably needs to go out every 2-3 hours

And as soon as you bring the pup home you should take it to the place where it is going to potty before ever taking it inside the house or anything.

You will need to take him out throughout the night, but not as much as during the day. You will find that he will be very restless anyway and will cry so you might not get much sleep anyway, so if you are awake you might as well take him out.

Max is 9 weeks and I take him out at around midnight when we go to bed and then usually at around 4/5am and then again at 7.30am, and then almost on the hour thereafter (when Im not at work). I automaticlaly wake up at 4/5am as I think subconsciously Im worried he will wee inside.

We play with Max after he comes in from having a wee, he has some sausages on a rope, football, tennis balls, and his favourite - an empty 2litre bottle! I definately recommend one of those for every puppy. He cant get enough of it. Anyway we play him a bit, then he plays on his own, then we might do a bit of training and then he will sleep. We're busy crate training him and from today Im starting to put him in his crate 45 minutes after he has been out, and taking him out 15 minutes after, then the whole process starts again!

I can't access your photos. You may want to upload them to our photo gallery or rigshowcase.com for easier viewing.

You can try creating an account at photobucket.
Or when you post, click on the grey 'go advanced' button, then you will see a button that says "manage attachments' down below the smilies. If you click that you get a popup that asks where the pics are on your computer. When you find them (use 'browse' to do that ) click 'upload'. You can attach 5 pics maximum. Then click 'close this window' and when you hit 'submit reply' the pics will be attached as thumbnails.
