 Beauty broke her tail!!! I was so worried when I found it, I don't know how it happened but it would have been very easy. Vanna and she bounce off the walls like you wouldn't believe. I called Patty(Previous owner) I got no answer... I called Donna(she had Beauty's brother Crud) she said there wasn't anything you can do about it and it's typical for salukis. I called Linda (she owns Willie who was in that terrible lure coursing accident...) and she said the same thing. But stubborn 'ole me and since I worry so much and had mom take us to the vet. He said "nope nothing you can do, shoved us out the door and charged us 20 bucks. >.<
:sad-smiley-002: Look upon the tragedy...

cainan did that once. i was really worried because his tail is never down quite like it was. it look like somebody grabbed it and snapped it right in half.
After a good long nap though it was fine. maybe just give it some time and it'll go back to normal.

I know of a litter of Birman kittens and one littermate jumped on one of the the other kittens tail and broke it. This kitten is now a big cat and has a little kink near the end of the tail where the break was, but because of the thick fur you would never notice it. It coudl not be shown at a Cat show 'tho because when you run your fingers along the tail you can feel the kink.
Hope Beauty's tail heals soon.

I've had that happen in my cats. Unfortunately, it is a disqualifying fault in cats so that ends show careers for cats. Luckily, it is rarely painful. Hope it isn't painful for Beauty.

That is awfully sad Star...poor Beauty.:(
Hope she's all right...happens to Greyhounds too..generally any dog with such a skinny tail will run the risk of breaking it. Beauty must be a real happy dog though since it was probably broken during play.

Yeah, happy tail can be a real problem. I've got brush strokes on the walls in Greyhound blood, where they have split their tails open from wagging them so hard against the walls and door frames, and I've had several fosters that had broken tails from severe happy tail...
Aw.. Poor thing. I know that's pretty common in dogs with minimal tail hair/padding. I used to worry about Bayta so much because she would really whack that thing hard on table edges, walls, my legs. Her tail was very strong and muscular and she could bruise me with it. I thought surely she was bruising her tail.
It doesn't sound like Beauty is hurting, thankfully. You'd think it could be splinted or something to at least cosmetically fix it. But I guess the bones are not supported enough down there with muscle.
Tom - OUCH! Poor doggies.
A little OT - but a similar problem is ear flap hematomas. Bay had one of those. Floppy eared dogs who shake their heads very hard can give themselves those. Those must be treated though. Everytime Ming shakes his head (really hard, jowls a flyin') I wait for that to happen.
I'm a worry wort, too. I'd have done just what you did. You're a good dog mom.
