okay well every monday somebody get picked, that have good advice nice, whatever, from the forum, and they are member of the week. they get a prize the prize is a sig, and and avvie, that say motw. the sig has a pic of the person and dogs, and says like

but you would have to find somebody that would make the sig, and avvie, the avvie would be the same for everyone

What we do have is a radnom member of the month prize. Two member each get money (you need a PayPal account to receive it).
We also usually have a picture contest of some kind going on.
And our way of thanking members who have been helpful is with the "reputation" system. There is more info here:

Please keep in mind that reputation points should only be given to members who have helped you or posted something that is "good" for the forum.

I think it would be cool that for one week the sig and av says "I am the member of the weeK" Then when the weeks over, they go back to their old siggy and av and someone elce is chosen!

I think it's a good idea, but maybe it could be given out randomly to be fair. ;)

I used to belong to a horse forum that had the horse of the month and it was fun. Same thing winner got a sig with hotm on it :) I also belong to a dane forum which tried the mom... member of the month but opted to just stick with picture of the month with a theme as the mom seemed to be more of a popularity contest than anything else.

In my opinion, member of the week, dog of the week or whatever isn't a good idea.

These things all sound great in the planning stages, but then just like the "I've been sprung, scorched, boo'd situation, feelings eventually get hurt.

Everyone's opinions should matter equally and IMO there's really no reason to single anyone out, even briefly.

Do we really want to fall into the clique like appearance of so many other dog forums? With only 52 weeks in a year and over 4,000 members it would take 76 years to include everyone. Who has the time to wait around that long?:D

Just a few months ago I joined this site in hopes of being able to help pet owners out with their real life dog related questions and problems. In some cases I feel I've actually been able to help.

Since that time I've noticed a distinct trend away from pet related issues and information with more and more emphasis on social activities.

Sure, we all need some lighthearted fun, social interaction and laughter in our lives but not at the expense of hurt feelings by singling individual members or pets out for special recognition.

I suggest we keep everyone on an equal footing rather than singling anyone out weekly to the exclusion of 3,999 other members. JMO

I think the member of the whatever were doing would be a great, no, fabulous idea. I have a question, who chooses the member because if we vote I'd have to choose katz. He gave me awesome advice for all my training problems with Brownie. Well anyways that's all i'm asking.

It is up to you all, I have been on alot of boards that choose a breed, do not know how they did? I love fun, humor, jokes, puzzles, funny things, it gets kinda boring just all dogs. That is what forums are for help, fun, enjoyment, humor and seriousness. But, not all the time, I thoroughly enjoy some thiings pertaining to pets that are humorous. Love to laugh. lol.:D

I agree we all need fun and laughter in our lives. And that's exactly the reason I'm opposed to singling out individual members or pets for recognition. It could backfire and turn this into just another forum with the appearance of being dominated by a clique!

It's my opinion that we don't need the divisIveness of popularity contests that are likely to cause a feeling of lack of acceptance among some members. I'd rather see everyone respected equally all the time than to have individual members singled out for fleeting recognition weekly!

If we proceed with this, the overwhelming majority of the members and their pets are going to be left out in the cold every year. A weekly choice would only include 52 members a year out of a membership of 4000. Hardly a fair representation of the numbers of great individuals we have posting here!

Let's keep it informative and fun rather than turning it into a popularity contest!

I do not care who has the most reps or posts made, that is as equal as all here. We should just all get along, could care less about trivia things, no contests or it could errupt into a nasety thing maybe? Who am I to say? You guys do the work on whatever? I just go with the flow and get into trouble anyhow. lol.

Reading the past threads on Rep and the seasonal sayings that are passed around was enough to convince me that it's best to avoid anything that smacks of favoritism or singling anyone out for special mention.

But then it always upsets me to think anyone might feel left out and wonder why they weren't the one that was chosen!:(

They have dog of the month on doggysnaps. The editor randomly searches a word and all photos with that word as a tag come up, and she picks one.
But of course, we don't NEED this, it would just be an idea :)
