I agree, call her what she is, a mix between a schnauzer and a shih tzu.
I'm personally not into the "fancy" names for mix breed dogs (I think it's kind of silly, but to each his own). You wouldn't call a malamute X sheperd a "Germamute" or a Chow X Pit a "ChowPit" would you? :D

Well saying a "mix between a Schauzer and a Shih Tzu" is a mouthful so I can understand why you might want to use a nickname. But there is no commonly accepted nickname for this mix. Go ahead and make one up!

Well, I guess you could call it a Schnautzu... but you'd have to explain what that was anyway. Just like you'd probably have to explain what a Pekapom was to JQP.
I didn't mean to litterally say the dog is a "mix between a schnauzer and shih tzu," I would think "Shih Tzu/Schnauzer mix" would be less to say.
Why is it only little dogs that get the fancy names (no, this isn't a smart aleck comment... I'm seriously wondering"?

Not true! The 'big dogs' get mixie names, but as far as I can tell it is meant more as a joke and not to be taken seriously!
Boxer/Rottie mixes are sometimes called "Rottenboxers".
And how about the "Blab" (cross between Beagle and Lab) http://members.aol.com/hedgesvillehound/blab.html
But to answer your question, my guess is that big dogs are treated differently than small dogs. Honestly if you think about a dog roaming the neighborhood, is it more likely to be a big dog or one of the smaller 'companion' dogs? If you have more big dogs running around (and NOT fixed) then you are going to end up with all kinds of mystery mixes. I think the smaller dogs tend to be kept inside and MAYBE there is more control over the breeding, so the mixes are intentional.
My best guess, I could be totally off here. :2cents:
