I was just wondering who does it and why do the thread titles keep changing. Like when someone posts somthing, the title like for mine "Thread Titles???" is changed.

Was your's changed? Usually you will have an edit in your post showing something was changed. I am sure a mod can answer your question.

I think they are changed to draw more attention to the thread. Like if you say "I don't understand" well the question is What don't you understand. So it was changed to "I don't understand folding" so the thread gets better attention to the members out there that know and can answer your question about Folding!
Do you get what i mean? lol

I'm pretty sure that it's to create a more direct and to the point subject. That way, people know what they're opening before they actually open it.

the mods change the titles...probably to bring more attention.
but i have noticed it quite a few times in my posts...even though i named them a specific thing because thats what i wanted. kinda bugs me sometimes, but hey...whatcha gonna do eh?

Hi folks,

PomeranianCrazy pretty much answered the question perfectly. :D You are right, we sometimes edit titles. If you look at the home page there are always the "Latest discussions" on the upper left. The mods try to make it easy for people who can give advice to see who needs help with what.

Say someome posts a thread with the title "Need advice". Well it could be on housetraining, dog food, picking a puppy etc etc, so a mod will go in and read the post and change it to "Need advice on puppy food" or whatever.

So Yellow Dog when you had a title that said "I don't understand" it got changed to "I dont understand "folding"" so that people who could explain folding would see quickly what you needed help with.

Something else we might do is move a post. Especially a newbie might ask a question somewhere where it will not get seen easily. So if we change the title and put it where members can see it they get help and are happy. :) Or if there is already a thread on the exact same topic we might move it there.

Oh, and if a title is not capitalized we do that too. :p

Hope this answers your question!

We try not to change thread titles and only do so as stated by SS above.

If anyone see a change that they do not liek in one of their own thread pelase feel free to address it with one of the mods. :)

I'm so oblivious, I'd never notice something like that. LOL. Sounds like good management to me.

I'll post some more info on thread titles in the future, but in short, thread titles should be descriptive and informative. "Need help!" or "Need help with dog!" really doesn't tell anyone what the issue is, so 1) you're much less likely to get help and 2) it's very unlikely that someone with the same problem in the future will be able to benefit from your thread.

Quite honestly, I change thread titles frequently for the reasons above and for formatting (capitalization, excessive punctuation, etc.) I have some thread title guidelines just about finished up, and I'll post them when they're in final form.
