I have been reading a lot more information on raising our pups and they all seem to echo the same advice (at least many of them I'm finding through google) and I feel like I'm doing something wrong by these standards.

(reference this site for ex. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1651&articleid=916 )

Our pups are just barely up and "walking" (kinda stumbling around) and they're 22 days old.

We moved them out of the bathroom and have one of those "soft-pens" by Petnation that's set up in the living room. We put down a tarp, and then a scrap piece of carpet and covered that w/ newspaper and have a few blankets for them to lay on, on one side of the pen. At night or when we have to go away for any period of time longer than 30 min. they go back to the bathroom (we tried leaving them and mom in the pen while we left one evening and she tore down the pen, shredded the newspapers up EVERYWHERE, and there were puppies all over the house...lets not even get into what a site it was...). But we don't have the newspaper covered w/ anything else...and that site above got me thinking that that's why they aren't walking strongly yet???? B/c they don't have the best of traction on it. But I'm not sure what else to set down that won't be havic to clean up.

We're starting w/ a small waterdish tonight and tomorrow will start blending up food for them, but I read somewhere that it's good to mix up w/ yogurt (especially since we don't have puppy milk supplement)?? Any particular TYPE of yogurt I should go w/ if this is ok?

I have a dozen more concerns but not coming to mind at the moment. But any more help is greatly appreciated.

Hi well they will still stumble around until they get to about 4 weeks so don't worry too much.
Newspaper is fine for them to run on.

Just a thought , they will need worming soon and remember to trim the pups nails , otherwise they will scratch the mom and she wont like it.

ive never given yogurt to my pups , can you not get a milk supplement? It has a ll the nutrients they need.

Goat yogurt is the best if thats all you can get, in fact my pups are reared on goats milk.

good luck

thx lassie and jdogg. I can't seem to find puppy replacement milk (even walmart doesn't carry it here) and I was going to resort to driving an hr north to Denver to find some as a last resort but I didn't know if I could just get by w/ blending the puppy food w/ yogurt?

Oh hey, I didn't notice you were in Colorado! I go down to the Springs often (used to live down there)... if you're still looking for replacement milk have you tried the PetsMart on Academy? I haven't been there in a while but last time I was there they had it...

There is also a Whole Foods Market near the Chapel Hills Mall and they sell goat's milk. >^^;< Err... dunno if they sell goat yogurt though...

Thanks for the help cheeta! I didn't try petsmart and I'd never been to the whole foods place...in fact didn't even know it existed (we don't have those where i'm originally from). I'll try there later this afternoon when we're running errands. So far what I've been doing is softening puppy food w/ water then blending it up w/ plain yogurt and they have been loving it. We just started doing that today and they had their 2nd meal about an hr and a half ago of puppy food. Tikaani still nurses for maybe 5 min at a time every now and then, and then at night she lays down w/ them and nurses for a while too so they're not totally missing out on milk

I'm in Centennial, CO, in the Denver area. >^_^< I drive to the Springs quite often to visit my best friend and my grandmother (on the north end of town) and my dogs always come with me lol... It's always nice to meet somebody local... sometimes I think that nobody lives in this state but me lmfao!

lol, I felt that way when I lived in Idaho but I'm slowly meeting more people in the area that have similar interests. I found an awsome listserve that is strictly husky owners which is where I found the guy that offered to put Tikaani on his team! And I met some sugar glider owners on sugarglider.net and I've met some great ladies working on weight loss from another site. It's slowly coming along :)

Hey, next time your down, hit me up and maybe we can get the dogs together for some playtime :) Tikaani is getting SOOOOOO much better w/ her socialization! She actually PLAYS w/ the neighbor's dog now haha!
