Well, yet again, another poor dog in need.

A friend of mine works/owns a Boarding kennel. And they have a I think she said 9 mo old Dane.. HUGE Dane.. That needs a new home there. His owner boarded him there cause she had to go to Alaska for work *Traveling Doctor*... And now 6mo later, knows she isn't going to be able to be back for him for a while. She lives in the most put away area in Alaska, and can't even get to and from places without a special vehicle.. So transporting him isn't a option. :-( So, she brought it up to me last night, that If I Run across anyone interested in a BIG male Dane.. Let her know. He has been in the kennel for 6 mo, so will require training. And she is unsure how he will be in the house and such. But, she said he is very sweet.. But VERY large hahaha

She also has a male Shih tzu *I Don't remember how old* that needs a new home.
His owner died of cancer at 62. He had the flu went into the hospital, and never came out. This dog has been going to Daycare for a long time, But in the house is WAY to territorial for any other animals. He is VERY sweet, and a Very good Dog..Just needs to be a only pet. The owner's wife tried to keep him,But she just can't handle him*She didn't like him anyhow*. And they were in the process of a divorce when he died..But he has been tried in several homes, But all had animals.. so it didn't work out.

So, if you know anyone for these 2 poor pets.. let me know.

Oh dear! I hate to hear that. I do hope somebody can come to the aid of these poor dogs.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have a Great Dane & a 9 month old sounds perfect to me. Mark is not so keen on having a dog that large; however, I will talk to him about the dog as we're pretty much ready to get another one. Is there any way we could get pics of these dogs?

Katz,
What breed are you looking into?

Oh dear — I'm about to take another thread off topic (sorry!).

G&H, I just can't decide. But here's the deal — Mark would really like a puppy (a very young one & would prefer a golden) — I would just like a young dog (puppy to 1 year — and I do want a purebred dog) & don't have that much of a preference as to age. We intended to wait until Ozzy at least had a title or two; however, I don't think we'll wait much longer. I would really like to rescue our next dog but that certainly isn't a requirement.

Before we got Ozzy, I was just sure my next dog would be an Akita but when Ozzy's litter was born I melted. Goldens are Mark's favorite breed & he's the one who was really pushing to get a dog. I have to admit, Ozzy is turning out to be my absolute BEST DOG EVER so I could EASILY be convinced to get another Golden.

If I were to get an Akita or another breed known for aggression issues, I will get a young puppy. I'm not so sure that an Akita is the best choice for Ozzy as I really think he needs a higher energy dog.

I've always wanted a Great Dane but somehow never seem to get past the point of drooling over them & I wouldn't put an age requirement on a Dane. I truly love BIG, BIG dogs (you can't make 'em too big for me). Mark really doesn't like the idea of a dog as large as a Great Dane & he's far more the sporting dog type. I, on the other hand, secretly know that he'd fall in love with it upon arrival & that problem would likely be solved with photos if it was a really great looking dog.

Another reason I asked for pics of this Dane is that my best friend has been looking to adopt a large dog. She's been considering several breeds (Gordon Setter being the smallest she's mentioned). So, if I had a pic, I would be sending it along to her too.

I'm very partial to mastiff types also & have been secretly thinking that a Dogue de Bordeaux is for me. Again, not sure any in this category really have Ozzy's energy level compatibility.

You have gotten me VERY interested in Hovawarts. Flattie has gotten me VERY interested in Flatcoats. If I get another Golden, I want a blonde one. Having a Hovawart or a Flattie would probably suit my color contrast preferences (yeah, I know ... that's dumb) and would probably be my best choice for a buddy for Ozzy if it isn't another Golden.

Somebody please convince me what I want?:p

Katz,
There's a hovawart breeder in Canada that has 2 blond, male puppies left and they are to die for. They look like a golden puppy but will behave like GSD.
Ican PM you the address, they will be ready,in August.

www.uship.com (http://www.uship.com) :) they brought Aja from LA to SD for me and it was not even very expensive. I think it was $200 or right in there. You would love a dane...hint hint ;)

Are you going to tell me their energy level isn't high enough for Ozzy too?:( Yes, let's please do talk Danes. Either talk me into one or out of one, once and for all, please. I've had many years this nagging idea I should have AT LEAST one.

Yes, please do! I really need to decide what it is I want & you've got me really interested in the breed. I'm far more confident of my training skills with the working & herding breeds even though Ozzy is likely the easiest dog I've ever trained all things considered.

Thank you! Oh my goodness, I can't shut my mouth! Those are adorable puppies! They are certainly beautiful dogs. I like the fact that they're taller than goldens too.:D Will start talking to Mark about who, what, when, how, and ... all the stuff that goes with it.

I hope they get a good home soon too. I'd be sorely tempted to go after that Dane if I wasn't already maxed out with dogs. And my Doberman wouldn't allow it. LOL. He's pretty dog reactive.

I have a feeling a lot of people would love to have him so I bet he'll find a home soon. I wonder about the other dog though. I so hope it all turns out well.

I've talked to Mark about the Hovawart & he prefers the black & tan (as do I). He said if we were to get a blonde one, we should get another golden. If they were closer to home, I'd probably override him. They are stunning pups though.

Any news on the Dane that needs a new home?
