I just got back from getting my American Eskimo (spitz) groomed-if you can call it that-
Okay well it has a thick coat of hair underneath the long hair and they shaved him to the skin-will it grow back and look normal?! He looks bad? it's the first time i've ever had this done and im scared the hair will grow back funny?!

I know several people who have their dogs shaved each Spring, and although they look rather strange for a while, their coats always grow out nicely in a few months.

wow! i use to have american eskimo dogs and i just cant picture a eskie without that long coat! i bet that looks really different. i hope it grows back normally

I don't think it looks too bad. A lot of people think Zoe is just a shaved Eskie. She's actually an eskie/husky cross. She does look almost like an eskie, just with short fur. I heard that it's not recommended to shave eskies though. I'm not sure why. But it shouldn't be done. I'm sure it'll grow back just fine though.

ill grow back fine. why did you shave it off? was the heat really bothering him? he prolly loks funny but feels a lot better! he doesn't care if his coat looks pertty, he wants to feel comfortable =D

omg did u ask for it to be done like that. some times it may grow back alot thicker in some dogs and it may look abit duller as some of the oils will be taken away as well.

Our dog was shaved and his hair is growing back just fine. He was shaved a month ago.
